Customs officials have seized 1,980 drones weighing 658 kilogrammes and worth nearly Tk 1 crore after they were imported under the declaration of rechargeable remote-control toys.
The drones were detected during a physical inspection of a consignment imported by Mim Collection of Chawkbazar, Dhaka, according to a press release issued by the National Board of Revenue (NBR).
Acting on a tip-off received by Customs House ICD Commissioner Kazi Muhammad Ziauddin, officials examined the consignment on September 29.
The shipment was imported under Bill of Entry No. 12367 dated September 27, 2026, with various types of toys declared in the import documents.
During the inspection, customs officials found the drones instead of the declared toys.
The seized drones have a total weight of 658kg and an estimated value of nearly Tk 1 crore.
Authorities said they are verifying the flying range of the drones and relevant import documents to determine whether they fall under restricted import categories.
Applicable customs duties and penalties will be realised, while legal action is being processed under the Customs Act, 2023 and relevant regulations.
Customs officials said they are maintaining strict surveillance to prevent the import of restricted goods through misdeclaration and to curb revenue evasion.
