DHAKA — A Dhaka court today placed Diamond World Managing Director Dilip Kumar Agarwala on a one-day remand in a money laundering case filed with Gulshan Police Station.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam passed the order after police produced Agarwala before the court and sought a three-day remand for questioning.
A team of the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested Agarwala from the capital’s Banani area on October 19.
According to the case documents, between September 6, 2006, and February 8, 2024, Diamond World legally imported gold bars, jewellery and loose diamonds worth Tk 38.47 crore through letters of credit (LCs).
During the same period, the company also procured gold and diamonds worth approximately Tk 678.19 crore from the local market.
However, the company allegedly failed to provide valid documents identifying the sources and suppliers of the locally procured gold and diamonds, raising suspicions that the items might have been smuggled into the country.
The money laundering case was filed with Gulshan Police Station on November 17, 2025, under the Money Laundering Prevention Act. CID Inspector Mohammad Asaduzzaman Sheikh filed the case.
The court’s remand order allows investigators to question Agarwala as part of the ongoing investigation into the allegations.
