Bangladeshi model and actress Snigdha Chowdhury, who recently made her big-screen debut in the Eid release Pressure Cooker, has filed a criminal case alleging that she was lured to a hospital under the pretext of signing an advertising contract and was subjected to severe physical assault after being mistaken for another woman.
The case was filed at Khilkhet Police Station on the night of July 26, according to the First Information Report (FIR).
According to the complaint, Snigdha was invited to the hospital with the promise of signing a commercial endorsement agreement. However, upon arriving at the venue, she allegedly found herself in a hostile situation rather than a professional meeting.
The FIR states that the chairman of a business group mistakenly identified her as a woman named Jeba Takiya, whom he believed had defrauded him of a large sum of money.
As a result of the mistaken identity, Snigdha alleged that she was physically and mentally abused.
The complaint further alleges that the attackers tied her hands and feet, threatened her, and pressured her to admit that she was the woman they were looking for.
She also claimed that a man identified as Emon, who was present during the incident, did not attempt to stop the assault. Instead, he allegedly joined others in forcing her to confess to the false identity.
According to the FIR, Snigdha was allegedly strangled, had her hair pulled, and was repeatedly struck on different parts of her body, leaving visible injuries.
The actress said she initially hesitated to seek legal action out of concern for her personal safety and professional career. However, she later decided to pursue justice by filing the case.
Police at Khilkhet Police Station said they have taken the allegations seriously and that an investigation is underway.
They added that appropriate legal action will be taken against those found responsible based on the outcome of the investigation.
Snigdha Chowdhury gained recognition as a model before making her film debut in “Pressure Cooker,” which was released during this year’s Eid-ul-Azha holiday. The alleged assault has drawn widespread attention in the country’s entertainment industry and on social media.a
