Dhaka: The Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) has seized one kilogram of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as “Ice,” worth an estimated Tk 50 million during an anti-narcotics operation in Shah Porir Dwip, Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar.
The information was confirmed on Tuesday (August 4) by Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon.
According to him, acting on intelligence, the Coast Guard Outpost at Shah Porir conducted a special operation at around 2:00 a.m. on August 4 in the Naf River under Teknaf Police Station.
During the operation, Coast Guard personnel signaled a suspicious engine-powered wooden boat to stop. However, the suspected drug traffickers ignored the signal. Realizing the presence of the Coast Guard, they sped away, abandoned the boat on the nearby Golar Char, and fled the scene. As a result, no suspects could be arrested.
A subsequent search of the abandoned boat led to the recovery of one kilogram of crystal meth (Ice), valued at approximately Tk 50 million, along with the boat allegedly used for drug trafficking.
Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon said that legal procedures regarding the seized narcotics and the boat are currently underway. He added that the Bangladesh Coast Guard will continue conducting such operations to curb the spread of dangerous narcotics.
