Detectives from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police have arrested former Joint Secretary Syed Jaglul Pasha, accusing him of preparing forged documents and giving false testimony in the Zia Orphanage Trust case involving former prime minister Khaleda Zia

The arrest was confirmed on Wednesday by DMP Additional Commissioner (Detective Branch) Md Shafiqul Islam.

He said Jaglul Pasha was arrested at around 8:30 pm on Tuesday in the area of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport after detectives received information that he was returning to Dhaka by air from Cox’s Bazar.

According to the DB official, Jaglul Pasha has been shown arrested in a case over allegedly placing sand-laden trucks in front of Khaleda Zia’s former political office in Gulshan to obstruct access.

Shafiqul Islam said the former bureaucrat also faces several other criminal cases, including one filed under the Special Powers Act with Gulshan Police Station, a murder case linked to the anti-discrimination student movement filed with Jatrabari Police Station, a case related to Operation Eagle Hunt filed with Shibganj Police Station in Chapainawabganj, and a murder case involving BNP leader Altab Hossain filed with Daulatpur Police Station in Kushtia.

Police said further legal proceedings against the former joint secretary are underway.
