A Bangladeshi youth was killed in firing by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) in a border area of Kulaura upazila in Moulvibazar.
The incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday in the Maguruli area of India, near the Muruichhara border in Prithimpasha Union of Kulaura.
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Tara Mia, 20, son of Abdul Malek of Muruichhara village.
According to sources from Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Battalion 46, at around 3:35 a.m., four to five Bangladeshis crossed the border and entered approximately 500 yards inside India into the Maguruli area. At that time, BSF personnel from the Maguruli camp opened fire, killing Tara Mia on the spot.
Lieutenant Colonel Sarker Asif Mahmud, commander of BGB 46 Battalion, confirmed the death.
He said, “The deceased youth had long been involved in illegal smuggling and had a case filed against him at Kulaura Police Station. After the incident, the other individuals fled and returned to Bangladesh. They are currently in hiding.”
