A day before India’s Independence Day, the Delhi High Court received a bomb threat via email, Delhi Police said on Friday. The threat has triggered fresh security concerns in the capital.
India will celebrate its Independence Day on August 15. Ahead of the occasion, security has been tightened across New Delhi and other important and sensitive areas of the country. Strict checks are being conducted at entry and exit points in Delhi, while additional police and security personnel have been deployed at key installations and crowded places.
As in previous years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation from the Red Fort in New Delhi. The bomb threat to the Delhi High Court ahead of the major national event has prompted authorities to further strengthen security arrangements across the capital.
Delhi Police said the threat email is being taken seriously and is under investigation. Security agencies are working to identify the source of the email and verify whether the threat is credible.
Earlier, on August 3, an email threatened to blow up the Delhi mayor’s office. Police had also tightened security protocols following that incident.
The repeated threats ahead of Independence Day have raised concerns in the capital. Authorities said an investigation is underway to determine who is behind the threats.
