Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch (DB) has arrested five people in connection with the robbery of Tk 1.2125 crore from an employee of a petrol pump in Uttara.
The suspects were arrested during a special operation on Friday. Police also recovered firearms, ammunition, cash and various tools allegedly used in the robbery.
Their identities have not yet been disclosed.
The robbery took place on August 9 when the money was being taken to a bank for deposit.
A group of robbers riding three motorcycles intercepted the vehicle, attacked the occupants with sharp weapons and fled with the bag containing the money.
A case was filed with Airport Police Station following the incident. DB officials are scheduled to brief the media on Saturday about the arrests and the recovered items.
