Jahangirnagar University (JU) unit of Jatiya Chhatra Shakti has submitted a memorandum to the Vice-Chancellor, demanding impartial investigations into several alleged administrative and financial irregularities at the university.
The student organisation also demanded the withdrawal of a controversial accommodation proposal of the Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JUCSU) and hall unions.
A delegation led by Jatiya Chhatra Shakti JU unit President Zia Uddin Ayan submitted the memorandum to Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan at his office around 5pm on Tuesday.
The organisation placed four demands, including the immediate withdrawal of the accommodation-related proposal, a neutral investigation into alleged irregularities in a promotion board resolution, an investigation into allegations of collecting unauthorised payments from rickshaw pullers and shop owners, and a probe into allegations against Fazilatunnesa Hall Vice-President (VP) Oishi Sarker.
In the memorandum, Jatiya Chhatra Shakti said transparency, accountability and fairness in administrative decision-making were essential for maintaining confidence among students.
It said recent administrative and organisational decisions had raised questions and concerns among students, which should be addressed through impartial investigations.
The organisation demanded the immediate withdrawal of the JUCSU and hall unions’ accommodation proposal, which it described as controversial.
It also called for an impartial investigation into alleged irregularities in the promotion board resolution and publication of the findings.
The third demand was for an investigation into allegations that money or unauthorised payments had been collected from rickshaw services and shops on the campus, followed by action against anyone found responsible.
The fourth demand was for an impartial investigation into allegations against Fazilatunnesa Hall VP Oishi Sarker and those administratively connected with her.
The memorandum further demanded that political influence, organisational identity or administrative authority should not affect any investigation.
It called for statements from both complainants and accused persons to be recorded and relevant evidence to be verified. If the allegations are substantiated, the organisation demanded that administrative action be taken in accordance with the university’s laws, ordinances and regulations.
Speaking at a press conference after submitting the memorandum, Zia Uddin Ayan said the university administration had assured them that the accommodation proposal would be discussed at an administrative meeting.
“Regarding our first demand, the university administration has informed us that the issue will be raised at an administrative meeting soon. They have assured us that the decision will be reconsidered and possibly withdrawn,” he said.
Regarding the second demand, Ayan said the administration would examine alleged inconsistencies in the promotion board resolution and allegations involving Aleya Ferdousi.
He also said the administration had agreed to form an investigation committee into allegations of collecting money from rickshaw services.
According to Ayan, the investigation would examine the alleged involvement of JUCSU Vice-President Abdur Rashid Jitu, Salam-Barkat Hall VP Maruf Hossain, computer operator Monir Hossain and others whose names allegedly appeared in call records.
He said allegations against Fazilatunnesa Hall VP Oishi Sarker and individuals administratively connected with her would also be investigated.
JU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan said the administration would review the issues and take necessary steps.
“We will present the issues at an administrative meeting as soon as possible, examine the allegations, and if necessary, form an investigation committee and take appropriate measures,” he said.
