Three people have been served show-cause notices over an incident in which accused persons cut a cake inside the lock-up of the International Crimes Tribunal.

The tribunal Registrar’s Office confirmed the matter on Monday.

According to tribunal sources, the action was taken over the unauthorised supply of additional food to the accused and the cutting of a cake inside the lock-up to celebrate a birthday. The three individuals concerned have been instructed to submit written explanations promptly.

The incident took place on August 18 when a cake was cut inside the tribunal lock-up to mark the birthday of an accused. At the time, several relatives reportedly entered the lock-up carrying additional food.

Other accused persons were also seen joining in the celebrations, according to sources.

The incident came under widespread discussion and criticism after it became public, raising questions about security and discipline at the tribunal.

International Crimes Tribunal Chief Prosecutor Md Aminul Islam said recent incidents, including the cake-cutting, had raised questions about security and discipline at the tribunal.

He said the authorities concerned were taking the matter seriously and investigating the incidents, adding that necessary action would be taken.
