Two fertilizer traders have been fined Tk 90,000 by a mobile court in Singra, Natore, for illegally stockpiling fertilizer and creating an artificial shortage.
The mobile court conducted the operation at Biash Bazar in Dahiya Union of the upazila at around 9:30pm on Thursday, led by Singra Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Abdullah Al Rifat.
According to the upazila administration, acting on a tip-off, officials raided M/s Hamid Enterprise at Biash Bazar and found 220 sacks of fertilizer illegally stockpiled there. Md Rasel, son of the proprietor Hamidul Islam, was fined Tk 30,000 under the Fertilizer Management Act and another Tk 40,000 under the Consumer Rights Protection Act.
He was also ordered to sell the 220 sacks of fertilizer kept in the warehouse at the government-fixed price within one day.
During the same operation, Mizanur Rahman, owner of Tarikul Enterprise at Biash Char Matha intersection, was fined Tk 20,000 for illegally stockpiling fertilizer.
Upazila Agriculture Officer Khandaker Farid, Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer Shahadat Hossain, Livestock Officer Tasriful Islam and members of the police were present during the drive.
UNO Abdullah Al Rifat said the administration remains vigilant and legal action is being taken against those involved in illegally stockpiling fertilizer and creating artificial shortages.
