A mineral water company in Rajshahi has been fined Tk10,000 for producing and selling packaged drinking water without the required quality certification from the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI).
A BSTI mobile court conducted the drive at Future Mineral Water in the Baliapukur area of Rajshahi city at around 11:30am on Wednesday.
The company was fined for producing, selling and distributing 19-litre jars of packaged drinking water without obtaining BSTI’s quality certification. The mobile court also found the facility operating in an unhygienic and unsuitable environment.
Rajshahi District Administration Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate Md Shahriar Islam Nasif led the operation. Engineer Junaid Ahmed, an official of BSTI’s Certification Marks Wing in Rajshahi, acted as the prosecution officer.
Members of the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police were also present during the drive.
BSTI officials said such drives would continue regularly to prevent adulteration and ensure the supply of safe and quality food products in the public interest.
