The death toll from a bombing at a mosque in Pakistan’s northwestern Kohat district has risen to 27, with around 70 people injured, according to the latest figures cited by Pakistani media.

The attack took place during Friday prayers at a mosque inside the Kohat Police Lines compound.

An explosives-laden vehicle was reportedly rammed into the compound, followed by an exchange of gunfire between attackers and security forces.

The compound houses police and counterterrorism facilities. Several police officers were among those killed and injured. Earlier reports put the death toll at 21, with more than 80 wounded, as rescue operations continued.

No group has immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.

The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has denied involvement.
