Three children died after allegedly ingesting poison with their father in Tahirpur upazila of Sunamganj early Saturday.
The incident occurred in Rajani Line village under Uttar Baradal Union, according to police.
The father was also taken to Sunamganj Sadar Hospital in critical condition.
Police and local sources said the man allegedly gave poison to his three children before consuming it himself sometime during the night.
Neighbours and relatives later rescued them and took them to Dr Hafiz Uddin Complex in Badaghat Bazar.
Doctors there declared the three children dead and referred their father to Sunamganj Sadar Hospital for urgent treatment.
Hossain Mohammad Arafat, in-charge of the Badaghat Police Investigation Centre, confirmed the incident.
He said police found the three children lying on the floor after receiving information early in the morning.
The identities and ages of the deceased children were not immediately known. Police were also unable to determine the reason behind the incident immediately.
The bodies were being taken to Tahirpur Upazila Health Complex, police said.
