Police have recovered the iPhone belonging to 13-year-old Ishiat Shahriar Apratim from the home of a youth detained in connection with his death in Cumilla.
The phone was recovered during a raid at the suspect’s home in the Salmanpur area near Cumilla University on Saturday night, police said.
The suspect had earlier been detained after CCTV footage showed him with Apratim before the boy went missing.
Apratim, a Class VII student at Cumilla Border Guard Public School and the only son of Cumilla University Associate Professor Nahida Begum, went missing on Friday afternoon after leaving home with his mother’s iPhone to take photographs with friends.
His body was recovered from the Sananda hill area near Cumilla University on Saturday, nearly 24 hours after he went missing.
Police have detained three youths for questioning in connection with the incident and are analysing CCTV footage and other evidence.
Investigators suspect the iPhone may have been linked to the killing, although police have yet to officially disclose the motive. A detailed briefing on the investigation is scheduled for Sunday, according to police.
