Police have claimed that the mystery surrounding the killing of 13-year-old Ishayat Shahriar Opritom, the only son of Cumilla University Bengali Department Associate Professor Nahida Begum, has largely been unravelled.
Police will provide details at a press conference at noon on Sunday.
A district police official said investigators had made significant progress in uncovering the circumstances surrounding the murder.
Investigators said preliminary information and evidence suggest that Opritom may have been killed over his iPhone.
After Opritom went missing, university authorities and law enforcement agencies reviewed CCTV footage from various locations. One recording showed a teenage boy with Opritom near the university’s main gate.
Police detained the teenager and, based on information obtained during questioning, conducted a raid at his home on Saturday night and recovered the phone.
Another teenager was detained later on Saturday and is being questioned, according to law enforcement officials.
Police are expected to disclose further details about the case at Sunday’s press conference.
