A farmer was allegedly beaten to death by neighbours over a dispute stemming from a Facebook post in Kalukhali upazila of Rajbari on Friday morning.
The deceased was identified as Nazrul Islam Khan, 55, of Boalia village in the upazila.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (Pangsha Circle) Md Rakibur Rahman said police had detained a woman, identified as Golapi Begum, in connection with the incident.
According to the victim’s family, a dispute had developed between Nazrul’s family and their neighbours Iman Sardar, his wife Bulu Begum, son Tuhin and daughter Golapi Begum over a Facebook post made by Nazrul’s younger daughter.
The dispute escalated on Friday morning when the neighbours allegedly attacked members of Nazrul’s family. He was beaten with bricks and sticks and died at the scene, police said, citing the family.
Nazrul’s wife Johura Begum and daughter Runa were also seriously injured in the attack.
Police recovered Nazrul’s body from the scene and sent it to a morgue for autopsy, ASP Rakibur Rahman said.
Golapi Begum has been detained, while police are conducting a drive to arrest others allegedly involved in the incident, he added.
