Businessman shot in Cox’s Bazar

Cox’s Bazar: A businessman was shot and critically injured in broad daylight in Chiringa Union of Chakaria upazila in Cox’s Bazar on Friday, triggering concern among local residents over security.

The incident occurred while Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed was visiting the district to attend several official programmes.

According to local sources, the attack took place at around 11:00 am in Ward No. 2 of the Palakata area.

The victim, identified as businessman Romiz Uddin, was allegedly shot by Laltu, son of Gias Uddin, and Babu, son of Ola Mia, both residents of the same locality.

Romiz sustained serious gunshot injuries and collapsed at the scene.

Hearing the gunfire, locals rushed to the spot and rescued the injured businessman before taking him to Chakaria Upazila Health Complex.

As his condition deteriorated, the attending physicians referred him to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for advanced treatment after providing primary care.

Chakaria Police Station Officer-in-Charge Arifur Rahman said legal action would be taken in accordance with the law once a written complaint is filed.
