Kushtia: Two young men were hacked to death and another was seriously injured in a violent attack over a long-standing dispute for local dominance in Khoksa Upazila of Kushtia district, Bangladesh.
The incident took place at around 12:45 a.m. on Saturday in Debinagar village under Osmanpur Union.
The deceased have been identified as Faruk Hossain (40), son of the late Chand Ali of Debinagar village, and Abdul Sheikh (25), son of Atiar Sheikh of Khanpur village in the same union. The injured victim, Mulluk Mondal, was admitted to Kushtia General Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.
According to police and local sources, rival groups led by Salim Hossain and Mintu Chowkidar had been involved in a long-running dispute over local influence and dominance in Osmanpur Union. The tension escalated on Friday afternoon when supporters of the two groups clashed.
Later that night, supporters of Mintu Chowkidar allegedly launched a surprise attack on Salim Hossain’s residence, armed with locally made sharp weapons. During the assault, they allegedly attacked Salim’s supporters—Faruk Hossain, Abdul Sheikh, and Mulluk Mondal—inflicting multiple hack injuries.
Faruk Hossain and Abdul Sheikh died at the scene from their severe injuries. Local residents later rescued the injured Mulluk Mondal and rushed him to Kushtia General Hospital, where he remains under medical care.
Police are investigating the incident, which is believed to have stemmed from the ongoing rivalry between the two local groups.
