The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has resumed its operation for a second consecutive day at the Gulshan apartment of fugitive former Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Javed on Monday.
ACC Public Relations Officer Md. Akhtarul Islam confirmed the development, stating that a special team led by Deputy Director Md. Mashiur Rahman is carrying out the operation. He said the team is continuing the inventory process in compliance with a court order.
According to the ACC, Sunday’s raid uncovered a large quantity of luxury items from the apartment. The recovered assets include more than 300 coats, 532 neckties, eight watch boxes—including four Rolex watch boxes—three sets of pearl jewelry, four chandeliers, one bed, one sofa, and approximately 100 traditional kameez.
Purchase receipts recovered from the residence indicate that the Rolex watches may have been purchased for between US$14,000 and US$17,500 each, according to the ACC.
The commission said a detailed report on the seized assets will be released after the completion of Monday’s operation.
The ACC launched an investigation into Saifuzzaman Chowdhury following the change in government. Initially, a seven-member task force comprising officials from the ACC, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), and the National Board of Revenue (NBR) was formed. The team was later reconstituted after a change in leadership.
The investigation is currently being conducted by a nine-member team, led by ACC Deputy Director Md. Mashiur Rahman.
The ACC has filed multiple corruption and irregularity cases against the former minister. The accused include Saifuzzaman Chowdhury, his wife Rukmila Zaman, former Chairman of United Commercial Bank (UCB), as well as employees of his business entities and dozens of current and former UCB officials.
