DHAKA: The July Mass Uprising Memorial Museum has published a book documenting the sacrifices of Sanatani martyrs during the 2024 mass uprising, marking the occasion of Sharadiya Durga Puja.

The book, titled “Bisharjan: Julai Gano-Obhyuthaner Sanatan Shahidera” (Bisharjan: The Sanatani Martyrs of the July Mass Uprising), was released on Sunday, according to a press release issued by the museum.

Thousands of people lost their lives during the 2024 uprising that brought down the Awami League government after 16 years in power. Nine members of the Sanatan faith were among those killed, including students, a child and working people.

They were Sri Shuvo Shil, Riya Gope, Hridoy Chandra Taruya, Saikat Chandra Dey, Tanoy Chandra Das, Ripon Chandra Shil, Rudra Sen, Dipto Dey and Ganga Charan Raj Banshi.

The death of six-year-old Riya Gope during the uprising sent shockwaves across the country. She was playing on the roof of her home when she was shot.

The July Museum has preserved memorabilia of more than 500 people killed during the 2024 mass uprising, including those of the Sanatani martyrs.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman inaugurated the museum on August 5, 2026.

Published ahead of Sharadiya Durga Puja, “Bisharjan” is the first Bangla-language book dedicated to the Sanatani martyrs of the uprising, the museum said.

Speaking about the publication, museum Director General Ehsan Mahmud said the Awami League’s professed patriotic politics had, by July 2024, turned into a politics of protecting its hold on power, resulting in the indiscriminate killing of ordinary people.
