Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Monday formally inaugurated a project to develop three villages as ‘SDG Villages’ under a government initiative for sustainable development.
The prime minister virtually inaugurated the project from the China Friendship Conference Centre in Agargaon, Dhaka.
The three villages selected for the project are Mitingachhari in Kaptai upazila of Rangamati, Pankhali in Dacope upazila of Khulna and Nafanagar in Bochaganj upazila of Dinajpur.
The initiative has been taken under the government’s project titled “Redefining Economic Strategies for Sustainable Development of Bangladesh.”
In line with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the project aims to reduce poverty, address waterlogging, ensure quality education, improve healthcare, reduce child and maternal mortality, and provide safe drinking water and sanitation facilities in the selected villages.
Residents of Mitingachhari expressed their gratitude and enthusiasm over the initiative.
The project is part of the government’s broader efforts to promote sustainable development across the country.
