State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir today called for stronger coordination among United Nations agencies and closer alignment of their programmes with Bangladesh’s Five-Year Strategic Framework for Reform and Development (2026-2031).
He made the call during a meeting with UN Resident Coordinator ad interim Carol Flore-Smereczniak at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, according to a ministry press release.
“Bangladesh highly values its longstanding partnership with the United Nations and remains committed to further reinforcing its cooperation in support of shared priorities and national development,” Kobir said.
He appreciated Flore-Smereczniak’s leadership of the UN Country Team in advancing Bangladesh’s development priorities.
Responding to a query, the state minister outlined Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s key engagements during the recently concluded High-Level Week of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, including his meeting with the UN Secretary-General.
Kobir stressed the need for greater coordination among UN agencies and closer alignment of their programmes with Bangladesh’s reform and development framework to support the country’s national priorities.
On the Rohingya crisis, Kobir appreciated the UN’s humanitarian assistance and called for sustained efforts to facilitate the early, safe and sustainable return of the Rohingyas to their ancestral homes in Myanmar.
He emphasised that repatriation remained the only viable solution to the crisis.
Flore-Smereczniak appreciated the government’s continued support and reaffirmed the UN’s readiness to deepen its partnership with Bangladesh.
She also underscored the UN Country Team’s commitment to working closely with the government to address shared challenges.
