Malaysia’s Immigration Department (JIM) detained 41,596 undocumented migrants in 7,105 enforcement operations conducted nationwide up to July 15 this year.
During the same period, authorities inspected the documents and identities of 96,994 individuals.
According to a report by Harian Metro on Monday, the figures were disclosed by Datuk Zakaria Shaaban, Director-General of the Malaysian Immigration Department, after inspecting an integrated enforcement operation at the Kapar Bestari Industrial Area in Klang on Sunday.
Zakaria said enforcement would be further intensified under the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 (ATIPSOM) and the Anti-Money Laundering Act (AMLA) to ensure the strict implementation of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
He said the authorities would utilise all legal powers available under the law to take action against those involved in illegal activities.
“This is a clear warning to those who continue to engage in criminal activities outside the law,” he added.
