Ahmadul Kobir, Malaysia: Malaysia celebrated Maulidur Rasul, marking the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, with colourful religious and cultural programmes across the country under the theme “Madani Dihayati, Ummah Diberkati” (Embracing Madani Values, Blessed Ummah).
Thousands of Muslims took part in religious talks, Quran recitations, selawat and processions organised in various states.
The national-level celebration was held at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in Serdang, Selangor, where Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, attended the programme.
More than 4,000 people, including members of various procession groups, participated in the national celebration.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan, Education Minister Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar and Director-General of the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) Datuk Dr Sirajuddin Suhaimee were also present.
Addressing the gathering, Anwar said love for Islam should not be limited to Maulidur Rasul celebrations or processions. Instead, he said, the beauty of Islam and its message of humanity, compassion and welfare should be reflected in everyday life by following the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
He said Maulidur Rasul celebrations could provide an important platform to strengthen awareness, consciousness and enlightened values among Muslims.
In Selangor, the state-level celebration was attended by Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah at the Shah Alam Islamic Lecture and Muzakarah Hall. About 1,000 people attended the event.
Hindon Abdullah, 84, received the Maulidur Rasul Personality Award in recognition of her contributions to Muslim women, families and community development.
In Negeri Sembilan, Yang Dipertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir and Tuanku Ampuan Besar Tuanku Aishah Rohani Tengku Besar Mahmud attended the state-level celebration.
A procession involving about 4,000 participants from 74 groups representing government and private organisations, higher education institutions, students and persons with disabilities had been scheduled. However, it was cancelled because of continuous heavy rain.
In Johor, Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi led a procession involving about 5,000 people in Batu Pahat. Fifty groups from government agencies and various organisations walked about one kilometre from the Batu Pahat District Office complex to Sultan Ismail Mosque.
In Terengganu, the state Regent Tengku Muhammad Ismail Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin attended a celebration joined by about 1,000 guests.
The Ummah Volunteer Award was presented to community organisation Gong Tok Nasek Care and Muhammad Asmawi Mukhtar, a worker with the International Humanitarian Flotilla Mission. The Islamic Writer Award went to Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA) lecturer Professor Dr Engku Ahmad Zaki Engku Alwi.
In Kedah, Sultan Al-Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah and Raja Muda Kedah Tengku Sarafudin Badlishah attended the state celebration.
More than 500 people participated in the programme, which featured Quran recitation, a royal address, a special video presentation and a marhaban performance.
Imam Che Ismail Bakar received the Imam Personality Award, while former Kedah Mufti Datuk Paduka Sheikh Hasbullah Abdul Halim received a special award.
In Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah and Raja Permaisuri Tuanku Zara Salim attended the state-level celebration at the Casuarina Convention Centre in Ipoh, where about 2,000 people were present.
The programme included the recitation of Asmaul Husna, Quranic verses and selawat. Veteran director and actor Datuk Rahim Razali received the Zaid bin Thabit Award.
Melaka hosted one of the largest processions, with about 7,000 participants representing 101 groups. Led by Tun Mohd Ali Rustam, the procession began at Tun Fatimah Stadium in Bukit Serindit and ended at the Islamic Centre Square in Bukit Baru.
In Penang, Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Ramli Ngah Talib and his wife, Toh Puan Raja Noora Ashikin Raja Abdullah, attended the state-level celebration.
Former Penang State Secretary Datuk Seri Zulkifli Long was named the state’s Maulidur Rasul Personality of the Year. Several others were also honoured for their contributions in various fields.
Earlier, 1,320 participants from 44 groups took part in a 300-metre procession.
In Pahang, state Regent Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah attended the celebration, where former Pahang State Financial Officer Datuk Norzhan Ahmad was named the 2026/1448H Pahang Maulidur Rasul Personality. She received a certificate, crest and RM10,000 cash prize.
In Sabah, Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Musa Aman attended the state-level celebration at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) in Kota Kinabalu. More than 10,000 people attended the event.
Earlier, a procession involving 96 groups was held from Padang Merdeka to SICC.
In Kelantan, the Maulidur Rasul and National Month celebration at Al-Taqwa Mosque in Kubang Kerian featured a unique procession involving more than 20 horses and about 400 participants.
Organisers said the horses carried symbolic significance, noting that horses had been used for various purposes, including transportation, since the time of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
Across Malaysia, the celebrations combined religious devotion, community participation and cultural traditions, with organisers using the occasion to encourage Muslims to translate the Prophet’s teachings into everyday conduct and community life.
