Ahmadul Kobir, Malaysia: Preparations are underway for the 22nd edition of the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS), one of the world’s major halal trade platforms, with Bangladesh set to make a significant business presence through an exhibition and two separate trade missions.

Held under the theme “The World’s Largest Halal Showcase”, MIHAS 2026 is expected to go beyond showcasing halal products, providing a platform for trade, investment and international business partnerships.

Six Bangladeshi companies will participate in the exhibition under an initiative of the Ministry of Commerce and the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), with support from the Bangladesh High Commission in Kuala Lumpur.

Their participation is aimed at increasing exports of Bangladeshi products to the Malaysian market while creating opportunities to expand trade and investment ties between the two countries.

At the same time, two business delegations from Bangladesh will visit Malaysia in connection with MIHAS. A 39-member delegation from the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) and a 15-member delegation from the Bangladesh-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI) will take part in meetings and networking activities.

The two delegations together comprise 54 business representatives, who are expected to engage with Malaysian business leaders and explore new avenues for commercial cooperation.

The DCCI delegation, led by its President Taskeen Ahmed, will visit Kuala Lumpur from September 22 to 25. The Bangladesh High Commission in Kuala Lumpur is providing overall support to the delegation during the visit.

According to a DCCI press release issued on Sunday, Bangladeshi business leaders will hold meetings with Malaysian business organisations on September 23, 24 and 25.

Trade discussions and business-to-business (B2B) sessions are scheduled with the Klang Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) and the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (NCCIM).

The meetings will focus on identifying potential business partners, expanding Bangladeshi exports to Malaysia and exploring investment opportunities for entrepreneurs from both countries.

Direct B2B engagement is also expected to provide businesses with opportunities to establish new commercial links and strengthen existing trade relations.

The DCCI delegation will participate in MIHAS 2026 in Kuala Lumpur on September 24, where Bangladeshi entrepreneurs are expected to exchange views with Malaysian and international business leaders and investors on halal industries, investment and market expansion.

The global halal economy has expanded well beyond food and beverages, with halal cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, tourism, Islamic finance, fashion, logistics, technology and other services emerging as important sectors.

For Bangladeshi businesses, the expanding market could create opportunities to increase exports of ready-made garments, food products, pharmaceuticals, leather goods and cosmetics, among other products.

The MIHAS platform is therefore expected to provide Bangladeshi entrepreneurs with opportunities to explore consumer markets, identify potential distributors and establish partnerships with international companies.

During the visit, DCCI leaders are also scheduled to pay courtesy calls on Malaysia’s Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Tiong King Sing and Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying.

Malaysia has established itself as a major global hub for the halal economy, with MIHAS serving as one of the country’s key international platforms for connecting halal businesses with buyers, investors and industry players from around the world.

The participation of six Bangladeshi companies, alongside trade missions involving 54 representatives from two major business chambers, is expected to give Bangladeshi businesses a wider platform to explore export, investment and partnership opportunities in Malaysia.

The initiative also comes as Bangladesh and Malaysia seek to diversify bilateral commercial relations beyond traditional areas of trade and explore new sectors with greater potential for investment and market access.
