High Commission holds special consular camp in Penang

Ahmadul Kobir, Malaysia: The Bangladesh High Commission in Kuala Lumpur organised a two-day special consular camp in Penang to provide essential services to Bangladeshi expatriates living in the state and surrounding areas.

The camp was held on September 26 and 27 at the Liga Muslim Community Hall in George Town, Penang, where a delegation from the High Commission provided passport enrolment, passport distribution and other consular services.

The initiative allowed Bangladeshi expatriates in Penang and nearby areas to access consular services locally instead of travelling to Kuala Lumpur. The facility was particularly useful for working expatriates who might otherwise have to make a long journey and take time off work to obtain passport-related services.

During the camp, expatriates were able to enrol for new passports and collect passports that were ready for distribution.

High Commission officials also provided information and guidance on various consular matters and advised applicants to follow the prescribed rules and procedures when seeking services.

The officials also urged Bangladeshis living in Penang to exercise caution while using social media.

They advised expatriates to verify the authenticity of information before posting, sharing or circulating it on social media platforms. They also cautioned them against online fraud, misleading information and unverified claims that could create confusion or cause problems for individuals or the wider expatriate community.

The High Commission said it would continue efforts to organise similar special consular camps in different states across Malaysia to make passport and other consular services more accessible to Bangladeshi expatriates.

The mobile and special consular initiatives are intended to reduce the need for expatriates living outside Kuala Lumpur to travel long distances for essential services and improve access to consular assistance across Malaysia.
