Ahmadul Kobir, Malaysia: Malaysian immigration authorities have detained 190 foreign nationals, including Bangladeshis, during a raid on an entertainment centre in Kampung Pandan, Kuala Lumpur.

The operation, codenamed Ops Gegar, was conducted at around 4am on Saturday. Immigration officers checked 235 foreign nationals at the premises and detained 190 of them for suspected immigration offences.

The detainees included Indonesian, Indian and Bangladeshi nationals. Their nationalities were not accompanied by a detailed breakdown of the numbers in the information released by the authorities.

A total of 107 immigration officers of various ranks took part in the operation, with assistance from the National Registration Department (JPN).

The raid followed information received by the Immigration Department about the activities of foreign nationals at the entertainment centre, prompting authorities to conduct an enforcement operation.

According to the department, the 190 detainees comprised men and women aged between 20 and 41. They are suspected of violating various provisions of Malaysia’s Immigration Act 1959/63 and the Immigration Regulations 1963.

Following the operation, all those detained were taken to the Immigration Detention Depot at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) for further investigation and possible legal action.

The Immigration Department said it would continue conducting enforcement operations to identify and apprehend foreign nationals found without valid travel documents or passports, those who have overstayed their authorised period of stay, and those suspected of misusing their passports.

The department also warned employers and other individuals against employing, harbouring or colluding with undocumented migrants, saying legal action would be taken against anyone found to have violated the law.

The latest raid forms part of Malaysia’s ongoing immigration enforcement efforts targeting suspected violations involving foreign nationals. Authorities have repeatedly urged employers and businesses to ensure that foreign workers and other non-citizens under their responsibility possess valid documents and comply with the conditions of their stay.
