Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Tuesday urged Japan to recruit more skilled Bangladeshi workers and expand investment in Bangladesh, while calling for stronger cooperation in human resource development, skills training and bilateral trade.
The Prime Minister made the call when Uno Yoshimasa, Special Advisor to the Prime Minister of Japan, paid a courtesy call on him at his office at the Bangladesh Secretariat, according to Deputy Press Secretary Shahadat Hossain Shadhin.
The two sides discussed ways to deepen the Bangladesh-Japan strategic partnership and further strengthen cooperation across trade, investment, infrastructure and human resource development.
During the meeting, Tarique Rahman requested the Japanese government to recruit more skilled Bangladeshi professionals, particularly in the healthcare, agriculture and transport sectors, including drivers with Japanese language proficiency.
He also sought enhanced Japanese support for skills development, vocational training and broader human resource development initiatives to help prepare Bangladeshi workers for overseas employment.
Highlighting Bangladesh’s investment potential, the Prime Minister invited Japanese companies to expand their presence in the country.
“The Bangladesh government will provide all-out support if Japan is interested in establishing another industrial park similar to the one in Araihazar,” he said, referring to the Japanese Economic Zone in Narayanganj.
He also stressed the importance of joint efforts to boost bilateral trade and economic cooperation, saying stronger commercial ties would benefit both countries.
The meeting reviewed progress on several major infrastructure projects being implemented with Japanese assistance, including the planned inauguration of the Third Terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on December 16 and the ongoing Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) projects.
Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman, the Prime Minister’s Adviser on Finance and Planning Dr Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam, and the Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Overseas Employment for the Asia-Pacific Region Dr Md Shakirul Islam Khan attended the meeting.
The Japanese delegation included Nakayama Rieko, Assistant Vice Minister of Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, officials of the Japan Civil Aviation Bureau, and Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Saida Shinichi.
