Dhaka: U.S. President Donald Trump’s Special Envoy for South and Central Asia, Sergio Gor, paid a courtesy call on Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Saturday morning.The meeting took place at 9:30 a.m. at the Prime Minister’s Office in Tejgaon, Dhaka.
According to officials, the two sides exchanged views on a range of issues of mutual interest, including Bangladesh-U.S. bilateral relations, expanding trade and investment, regional cooperation, and other key strategic matters.
Sergio Gor arrived in Dhaka on Thursday afternoon for a three-day official visit. Later that evening, he held talks with Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman at the state guest house Padma. Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Gor described the discussions as “excellent” and said they had produced positive progress.
In a post on X, Gor also announced that the U.S. Department of State had lowered its travel advisory for Bangladesh from Level 3 to Level 2, citing improved stability across the country. However, he noted that heightened caution remains in effect for certain specific areas, which travelers are advised to avoid. He described the downgrade of the travel advisory as “great news” for Bangladesh.
On the second day of his visit, Friday, Gor traveled to the Rohingya refugee camps in Ukhiya and Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar. During the visit, he reviewed the overall situation in the camps, humanitarian assistance efforts, and the living conditions of displaced Rohingya refugees. He also held discussions with government officials, representatives of international organizations, and humanitarian aid agencies working in the camps.
