US Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs Sergio Gor held two consecutive meetings with India’s National Security Adviser Ajit Doval on Monday and Tuesday.

Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed the meetings at a press briefing on Tuesday.

Jaiswal, however, did not disclose details of the discussions. He said the two meetings focused on the “broad global strategic partnership between India and the United States.”

He said the partnership was making progress in several areas, with both sides committed to further strengthening cooperation in trade, friendly cooperation, energy security and critical minerals, among other areas.

Following his meeting with Doval, Gor described the talks as “productive” in a post on X. Without providing details, he said they discussed US-India strategic cooperation.

“Close partnership with India is critical to addressing global security challenges,” Gor wrote, adding that the two countries share many common goals and their engagement is steadily growing.

The meetings between Doval and Gor are being viewed as significant. Gor’s responsibilities extend beyond his role as a US envoy to India and cover a vast region stretching from India to Kazakhstan.

According to a Firstpost report, the meetings took place at a time when several significant developments were unfolding across India’s neighbourhood.
