Pakistan has said that the next round of indirect talks between Iran and the United States could be held in Islamabad, with the capital emerging as a strong contender to host the negotiations.
Speaking at his weekly media briefing recently, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said Pakistan and Qatar had separately engaged with the Iranian and US negotiating teams in Doha.
According to him, both sides agreed to continue the dialogue in the coming weeks.
Sources said the new meeting is aimed at easing long-standing tensions between Washington and Tehran while maintaining diplomatic momentum.
Two possible venues are under consideration for the strategic talks—Islamabad and Switzerland’s Bürgenstock Resort—with Islamabad currently viewed as the more likely choice.
The meeting is expected to take place on July 11, although the final venue has yet to be officially confirmed.
Andrabi said the latest engagement resulted in positive progress on issues related to the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which builds on discussions held during the Lake Lucerne Summit.
However, he declined to reveal details of the negotiations, citing the confidential nature of the process.
“There was positive progress made on issues related to the aspects of the Islamabad MoU, building on the Lake Lucerne Summit,” Andrabi said.
Asked whether Pakistan could host the next round of talks, Andrabi said he could not rule out future meetings in Islamabad, though no final decision on the venue had been made.
He added that the next phase of negotiations would be scheduled after the funeral of the late Iranian leader.
“We should rejoice in the fact that the dialogue is continuing. The parties are still at the table,” Andrabi said
