India’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Dinesh Trivedi, has said that Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s visit to India should take place as soon as possible.
He said a visit by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to India should happen very soon, stressing that issues between the two countries can be resolved through high-level meetings and dialogue.
Trivedi made the remarks at a dinner hosted by Ireland’s Honorary Consul in Bangladesh, Masud Jamil Khan, and his wife, Kate Jarrow Khan, at their residence in Baridhara, Dhaka, on Sunday night (August 16).
The High Commissioner said he was very optimistic about Bangladesh-India relations, noting that the people of the two countries share a close bond.
“Bangladesh and India do not just share a border; they also share a common dream,” he said.
Trivedi said Bangladesh and India are two sovereign countries and acknowledged that the two sides face challenges.
“There is no doubt that we have challenges. And if there are no challenges, that is not democracy. However chaotic democracy may seem, it provides a path for discussion and resolution,” he said.
He added that differences of opinion, debates and arguments between the two countries are normal.
According to Trivedi, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi are both leaders who remain connected with their people and share similar goals.
“I have said many times in the media that when two such leaders meet and engage in discussions, there is no problem that cannot be resolved through dialogue,” he said.
