State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam has said the bodies of Bangladeshi nationals killed in a hotel fire in Kolkata’s New Market area will be brought back to Bangladesh soon.
She made the statement while speaking to reporters at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday (August 19).
The state minister said the bodies of five Bangladeshi nationals killed in the fire have been identified, four of whom were members of the same family.
“The bodies of those killed in the Kolkata hotel fire will be brought back to Bangladesh soon. The Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata has already contacted their families,” she said.
She added that if the families are unable to bear the expenses, the government will cover the cost of bringing the bodies back to Bangladesh.
