The Indian High Commission in Dhaka has warned against the circulation of misleading information, alleging that a social media post sought to distort the facts surrounding a gift presented by the High Commissioner.
In a post on its verified Facebook page on Thursday (August 20), the mission said the High Commissioner had gifted a copy of the Arthashastra containing the quote, “Education is the best friend. An educated person is respected everywhere.”
The High Commission said the book’s cover had been altered to create a misleading impression and urged people not to change the cover in an attempt to distort the story.
Labeling the post “FAKE NEWS ALERT” and “FACT CHECK: POST IS MISLEADING,” the mission concluded with the message: “Don’t change the cover to change the story!”
