Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has said the Prime Minister can visit any country in the world, including neighboring India. However, such a visit must be based on equality, equal dignity and friendship. The people of Bangladesh will no longer accept anyone’s hegemonic dominance. Relations between Bangladesh and India must be founded on friendship, equal dignity and equality.

He made the remarks as the chief guest at a members’ (Rokon) conference of the Rajshahi Metropolitan Jamaat-e-Islami at the Rajshahi District Council auditorium on Friday afternoon.

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said Prime Minister Tarek Rahman is both the head of government and the head of his political party. If he wants, he can crack down on the ongoing extortion, corruption and bribery in the country. If he wants, these practices can be stopped. “The main question is whether he wants to do so,” he said.

Addressing the organization’s leaders and activists, he said Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami is regarded by the people of the country as an ideological organization. The party has worked among the people for a long time to spread the message of Islam and build an ideal society and state, he added.

Urging party leaders and activists to stand beside the people and work to ensure their right to vote in the upcoming local elections, the Jamaat chief said they must play a vocal role to ensure that no one can snatch away people’s votes.
