Russian President Vladimir Putin met Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar at the Kremlin on Monday (August 24), with the two sides discussing their growing partnership and ways to expand cooperation in key areas including trade, energy and fertilisers, Firstpost reported.
At the start of the meeting, Jaishankar conveyed Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s greetings to Putin and handed him a personal message from Modi.
Welcoming Jaishankar to Moscow, Putin said the visit reflected the depth and strength of the decades-old relationship between India and Russia.
Putin noted that the two countries maintain regular cooperation in government, parliamentary and economic affairs. He also said bilateral trade between India and Russia continued to grow in 2026, with cooperation expanding in almost all areas.
Jaishankar said a meeting of the India-Russia Intergovernmental Commission had already been held, where various aspects of bilateral cooperation were positively reviewed.
“Overall, I believe our economic cooperation has grown very significantly,” Jaishankar said, while expressing India’s interest in further expanding cooperation in these areas.
The two sides also discussed Modi’s upcoming engagements. Jaishankar said Modi looked forward to meeting Putin at the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit and expressed his interest in welcoming the Russian president to India for the upcoming BRICS summit.
