A major BRICS summit is underway in New Delhi, the capital of India. Addressing the gathering, Chinese President Xi Jinping called for an end to interference in the independence of other countries and urged nations not to obstruct one another’s trade.
Xi called on countries to reject decisions imposed through global power pressure and work together to maintain an open environment for trade, dialogue and cooperation.
He also expressed deep concern over the highly volatile situation in the Middle East. Highlighting the devastating consequences of war, Xi said the conflict in the region is harmful to the entire world and is pushing ordinary people further toward destruction and suffering.
Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian were also present at the summit.
Calling for greater unity among nations, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said at the opening of the summit that half of the world’s population and 40 percent of the global economy are now represented by the grouping. He stressed the need to break away from the old rules of power and build a world where countries—large and small—enjoy equal rights. Source: AFP.
