Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will leave for New York next Monday (September 21) to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. He is scheduled to address the session on September 24.
According to sources at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the prime minister’s visit to the United States has been shortened. He is expected to depart New York for Dhaka on the night of September 25, a day after delivering his address at the UN General Assembly.
During his visit, the prime minister will attend several high-level meetings at the United Nations and hold bilateral meetings with leaders of various countries. He will also participate in Bangladesh-hosted discussions on issues including the Rohingya crisis.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is also scheduled to meet UN Secretary-General António Guterres, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk, World Bank President Ajay Banga and other senior officials of international organizations.
In addition, the prime minister will attend a dinner hosted by US President Donald Trump.
