The Bangladesh Consulate General in Jeddah has urged Bangladeshi expatriates in Saudi Arabia to strictly follow local laws and regulations and exercise caution to avoid legal complications.

In a special advisory, the consulate warned expatriates to be particularly careful when using social media.

They were advised not to post, share, comment on or “like” content that violates Saudi laws, public order or security regulations, as such activities may carry legal penalties.

The consulate also advised expatriates not to sign documents or provide thumbprints without fully understanding their contents, particularly on blank papers.

Bangladeshis were further told not to register SIM cards, mobile phones, vehicles or other assets in another person’s or organisation’s name using their own iqama.

Working for another employer without permission from the designated sponsor or company was also described as illegal.

The advisory urged expatriates to avoid collecting and selling discarded items or scrap, engaging in unauthorised street vending and illegally supplying water.

It also cautioned them against financial transactions with unfamiliar individuals or organisations and warned them about fraudulent job offers.

The consulate said compliance with Saudi laws would help ensure the safety and legal security of Bangladeshi expatriates while maintaining Bangladesh’s reputation abroad.
