Bangladesh and the Netherlands have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation, with discussions focusing on trade and investment, water management, migration, LDC graduation and emerging areas such as semiconductor technology.
Dutch Ambassador to Bangladesh Joris van Bommel paid a courtesy call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir at the Foreign Ministry on Thursday afternoon and congratulated him on his recent assumption of office.
The ambassador expressed confidence that Bangladesh-Netherlands relations would be further strengthened through continued engagement.
Humaiun Kobir appreciated the Netherlands’ longstanding support for Bangladesh’s development, particularly in democratic transition, trade and investment, sustainable industrial development, water management and agriculture.
The two sides discussed political and economic developments, the proposed Bangladesh-EU Free Trade Agreement, Bangladesh’s graduation from the least developed country category, migration cooperation, human capital development, semiconductor technology, education and sports, as well as regional and multilateral issues.
The state minister thanked the Netherlands for its continued support for the Rohingya refugees and host communities in Bangladesh. He reiterated the importance of their safe, voluntary, dignified and sustainable repatriation to Myanmar.
Van Bommel reaffirmed the Netherlands’ commitment to further deepening bilateral cooperation, particularly in water management, agriculture, shipping, maritime infrastructure and people-to-people exchanges.
He also briefed the state minister on the upcoming visit of Sjoerd Sjoerdsma, Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation of the Netherlands.
Both sides underscored the importance of sustained high-level engagement and enhanced cooperation at bilateral and multilateral forums.
