Dhaka has strongly condemned the harassment of Nobel Peace Prize laureate and former interim government Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus at John F Kennedy International Airport in New York.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the government said the incident involved a group of individuals suspected of having links to the suspended Bangladesh Awami League.
Describing Yunus as a highly respected figure in the international community, the ministry expressed strong disapproval of the incident.
Following the incident, the ministry instructed Bangladesh’s diplomatic mission in the United States to coordinate directly with local US law enforcement agencies to identify those involved and pursue appropriate legal action.
The government’s statement did not provide further details about the incident or the identities of the alleged perpetrators.
