Saudi Arabia has shown strong interest in expanding investments in Bangladesh’s transport and logistics sectors, with a particular focus on maritime development and port infrastructure.

The interest was highlighted during a meeting at Biniyog Bhaban between Saudi Deputy Minister of Transport and Logistics Dr. Rumaih Mohammed Al-Rumaih and Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Executive Chairman Ashik Chowdhury, according to a press release.

Chowdhury, who also serves as CEO of the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Authority, led the Bangladesh delegation, with officials from BIDA, PPP Authority, and the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) in attendance.

The Saudi deputy minister praised Bangladesh’s efforts to enhance its business climate and advance privatisation, noting alignment with Saudi Arabia’s ambition to become a global logistics hub.

He emphasized creating greater opportunities for Saudi firms in Bangladesh while supporting Bangladeshi businesses seeking to expand into the Saudi market.

Discussions also covered the operations of Red Sea Gateway Terminal (RSGT) in Bangladesh, where more than 98% of employees are local.

The company is exploring further investments to modernise terminal operations through advanced technology and improved efficiency.

Both sides stressed the importance of leveraging current momentum to deepen bilateral investment ties and accelerate mutually beneficial projects.

Chowdhury said the talks focused on sectors where Saudi interest aligns closely with Bangladesh’s development priorities, including logistics, supply chain infrastructure, cold storage, and port development.
