The United States Army and the Bangladesh Armed Forces will launch the annual Tiger Lightning 26 bilateral military exercise on July 19, bringing together more than 160 service members from both countries to strengthen operational cooperation and military interoperability.
The joint exercise aims to enhance collaboration through realistic training in jungle warfare, counter-terrorism operations and tactical combat casualty care, while allowing both forces to better understand each other’s operational capabilities.
According to the organisers, the exercise will be conducted in both classroom and field environments before culminating in a comprehensive field training exercise.
Tiger Lightning is part of the US Army Pacific’s Theatre Army Campaign Plan and broader security cooperation efforts designed to strengthen professional military relationships, improve operational readiness and enhance interoperability between the US Army and the Bangladesh Army.
The exercise also seeks to improve the ability of both militaries to operate together effectively in response to shared regional and global security challenges.
First launched in 2017, Tiger Lightning has become a regular feature of defence cooperation between the two countries. Although the exercise was temporarily suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic, it resumed afterward and has been held annually over the past five years.
Military officials said the latest edition will provide participants with opportunities to exchange professional knowledge, refine tactical skills and strengthen bilateral defence ties through joint training.
The exercise underscores the continuing defence partnership between Bangladesh and the United States and reflects their shared commitment to enhancing military preparedness and cooperation through regular joint engagements.
