US Special Envoy for South and Central Asia Sergio Gor is expected to visit Dhaka later this month, with discussions likely to focus on Bangladesh’s foreign policy priorities and Dhaka-Washington relations.
Officials at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said discussions are underway regarding the visit of Gor, who also serves as the US Ambassador to India.
While the exact dates have yet to be finalised, the visit is expected to take place toward the end of July.
Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman is currently in New York, where he is attending engagements related to the assumption of office by the President of the UN General Assembly.
Following his New York visit, Rahman is scheduled to travel to Manila on July 23 to participate in the 33rd ASEAN Regional Forum.
He will then make an official visit to the Maldives before returning to Bangladesh around July 29.
Officials said Sergio Gor’s visit is likely to be scheduled in line with the foreign minister’s itinerary, making July 29 or 30 the most probable dates for his trip to Dhaka.
Sergio Gor is regarded as a close associate of US President Donald Trump. In addition to serving as the US Ambassador to India, he also holds the role of US Special Envoy for South and Central Asia.
