The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has announced a tax rebate for taxpayers who file their income tax returns early.

Individual taxpayers and Hindu Undivided Family (HUF) taxpayers who submit their returns between July 1 and September 30 will get a 5 percent tax rebate, up to a maximum of Tk 25,000.

The NBR said the rebate will be given under the Income Tax Act, 2023.

No tax rebate will be available for returns filed between October 1 and December 31.

Taxpayers who file returns between January 1 and March 31 will have to pay an extra 2 percent of the tax payable or Tk 3,000, whichever is higher.

Those filing returns between April 1 and June 30 will have to pay an extra 5 percent of the tax payable or Tk 5,000, whichever is higher.

The NBR said the incentive is aimed at encouraging people to file their tax returns on time and improve voluntary tax compliance.

The NBR launched its e-Return service for the 2026-27 tax year on July 22.

Taxpayers can file returns online through the NBR’s e-tax portal and pay taxes using bank transfers, debit and credit cards, or digital payment services such as bKash, Nagad and Rocket.

After submitting the return with correct information, taxpayers can instantly download their acknowledgement receipt and tax certificate.

The NBR said its officials will provide support through its call centre and other online channels during office hours on working days.

The board urged all eligible taxpayers to file their returns by September 30 to enjoy the tax rebate.
