Dhaka: Gold prices have increased once again in Bangladesh, driven by rising prices in the international market.
The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) has raised the price of gold by Tk 9,856 per bhori, setting the new price of 22-carat gold at Tk 232,930 per bhori, including VAT.
In a statement issued on Thursday morning, BAJUS said the revised prices took effect from 10:00 a.m. on August 6. The association had last adjusted gold prices on July 31.
According to BAJUS, the price of pure gold (acid gold) has increased in the local market. Considering the overall market situation, the association has revised gold prices, including VAT.
Under the new rates, the price of 22-carat hallmark cadmium gold jewellery has been fixed at Tk 19,970 per gram, which is equivalent to approximately Tk 232,960 per bhori (11.664 grams). The price of 21-carat gold has been set at Tk 19,075 per gram, 18-carat gold at Tk 16,380 per gram, and traditional-method gold at Tk 13,380 per gram.
BAJUS has also revised silver prices. The new rates are Tk 420 per gram for 22-carat hallmark silver, Tk 400 per gram for 21-carat silver, Tk 345 per gram for 18-carat silver, and Tk 260 per gram for traditional-method silver.
So far this year, gold prices have been adjusted 98 times in Bangladesh. Of those, prices were increased 48 times, reduced 49 times, while one adjustment was made to VAT.
