After three consecutive increases, gold prices have fallen in Bangladesh’s domestic market. The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) has reduced the price by Tk 2,158 per bhori, setting the price of 22-carat gold at Tk 234,621 per bhori, including VAT.
BAJUS announced the new rates in a statement on Friday. The revised prices came into effect at 10am the same day.
According to the statement, the price of Tezabi gold (pure gold) has declined in the local market. Considering the overall situation, BAJUS has revised gold prices, including VAT.
Under the new rates, one bhori (11.664 grams) of 22-carat gold will cost Tk 234,621, including VAT. The price of 21-carat gold has been set at Tk 224,065 per bhori, while 18-carat gold will cost Tk 192,398 per bhori. Gold sold under the traditional method will cost Tk 157,172 per bhori.
BAJUS said the new rates will remain effective at all jewellery shops until further notice. However, labour charges will apply depending on the design of the jewellery. As VAT is already included in the selling price of gold and silver jewellery, shops cannot charge customers VAT separately.
BAJUS also said its previous rules regarding the exchange and purchase of jewellery, excluding applicable VAT, labour charges and the value of stones, will remain in effect.
The latest adjustment came just a day after the previous revision. On August 13, BAJUS increased the price of 22-carat gold by Tk 1,133 per bhori, setting it at Tk 236,779, including VAT.
At that time, 21-carat gold was priced at Tk 226,165 per bhori, 18-carat gold at Tk 194,260, and traditional-method gold at Tk 158,630. Those rates also came into effect at 10am on August 13.
With Friday’s adjustment, gold prices have now been revised 103 times in Bangladesh so far this year. Prices have been increased 51 times, reduced 51 times, and adjusted once due to VAT.
In 2025, gold prices were adjusted a total of 93 times. Of those, prices were increased 64 times and reduced 29 times.
