Bangladesh received $1.499 billion in remittances during the first 12 days of August, equivalent to Tk 18,437.70 crore at an exchange rate of Tk 123 per US dollar.
Bangladesh Bank sources confirmed the information on Thursday.
According to the sources, remittances worth Tk 1,365.30 crore entered the country on Wednesday (August 12) alone. During the first 12 days of August last year, the country received $1.054 billion in remittances. Compared with that period, remittance inflows have increased by 42.20% this year.
Looking at the overall picture for the current fiscal year, from July 1 to August 12, Bangladesh has received $4.358 billion in remittances. During the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year, the figure was $3.532 billion.
This means remittance inflows have increased by 23.24% year-on-year during the same period.
