After a prolonged suspension, Biman Bangladesh Airlines is set to resume its direct Sylhet–Manchester service.
The inaugural flight on the restored route, BG-208, is scheduled to arrive at Osmani International Airport in Sylhet from Manchester at 11:50am on Sunday (July 5).
According to officials, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs, Civil Aviation and Tourism Humayun Kabir and Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam Rita will be present at the airport to welcome the arriving passengers.
The decision to reinstate the route follows years of demands from the Bangladeshi diaspora in northern England, particularly the Sylheti community. On January 29, Humayun Kabir, accompanied by leaders of the UK BNP, met with the relevant authorities and submitted a memorandum to the government calling for the restoration of the direct service.
Later, at a press conference held at the Dhaka Reporters Unity on February 4, he announced that a BNP-led government would revive the Sylhet–Manchester route upon assuming office.
Officials said the commitment has now been fulfilled within four months of the government’s taking office. Since assuming responsibility, Humayun Kabir has treated the issue as a priority, maintaining close coordination with the relevant agencies. The route has been restored through the joint efforts of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, Biman Bangladesh Airlines, and the Prime Minister’s Office.
